The Water Resources & Water Environment Lab at CIGIT-CAS has long worked on water resources, water environments, and ecohydrology for cascade reservoirs in the upper Yangtze River, dammed rivers, and urban water systems. Its research spans ecohydrological processes, reservoir carbon cycling, aquatic ecosystem health, freshwater microbial ecology, algal ecology, watershed restoration, environmental hydraulics, hydrogeochemistry, urban water systems, automated monitoring equipment, intelligent modelling, and knowledge-platform development.
For Smart Ecohydrology, the team supports three missions: joint ecohydrological and carbon-cycle research for the UNESCO Science Decade and international demonstration sites; carbon accounting, aquatic diagnosis, and nature-based solution assessment tools for basin management and low-carbon hydropower; and international capacity building through advanced training, joint observation, academic exchange, and young-talent development.
River-reservoir carbon cycling and low-carbon hydropower
CO₂ / CH₄ flux observations, reservoir carbon-source and carbon-sink assessment, and hydropower carbon-footprint accounting.
Aquatic health and ecological restoration
Aquatic health assessment, biological-community diagnosis, eDNA monitoring, and ecological restoration for watershed systems.
Automated monitoring and process analysis
River and lake monitoring, environmental hydraulics, hydrogeochemistry, and material-cycling process analysis.
AI modelling, knowledge platforms, and training
Knowledge graphs, RAG assistants, scenario models, and international training systems for platform-scale applications.
